Like most people at this time of year, I’ve been taking some time to reflect on the things that I’d like to take with me into 2026, and the things I’ll happily leave in 2025.
The big things are staying. You’ll be pleased to know that I have every intention of hanging on to Josh, the dogs and the amazing life we’re building together. I want to keep going with the gundogging, and all of the silver linings that that brings. And, I have every intention of keeping this little blog of mine alive, although, things might look at little different in 2026…

What Will Stay the Same
I’ve been so chuffed with the response I’ve had to the blog. When I started, I genuinely didn’t think anyone would read it.
What began as a way for me to sit and reflect on my own thoughts has quickly turned into something I’m really passionate about. I love the idea that my mad ramblings might also be helping others to process their feelings around the training of their dogs… especially when shit hits the fan and we might not want to talk about it out loud.
I want to keep writing about those moments. I want to keep building a space where people feel that they have solidarity with others who might also be experiencing the same things. Training a dog isn’t easy. Training a gundog is bloody hard going. If this blog can provide a little comfort to those going through it, then it has achieved it’s purpose!
What Will Change in 2026
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been giving the blog a lot of thought. I love writing, but a post every week can feel overwhelming at times. The last part of 2025 was insanely busy for us. We had trialling and training commitments almost every weekend. I must admit, it made it tricky to find time to blog in a way that felt authentic and enjoyable.
Although this blog has been a great amount of fun, the sense of responsibility I’ve felt in the last few months has made me reevaluate what the frequency of posts might look like for the future. So that I can continue to write quality posts, I’m going to pull back to writing a post every other week, instead of every week. A tough decision, but a necessary one.
Posting bi-weekly will give me time to formulate more meaningful articles. Additionally, it will also give me time to fully flesh out those ideas in a way that feels more sustainable and true to the purpose of the blog.
I have some other plans for Field Notes & Follies, too. I’ve been slowly chipping away at some resources that I’d like to have available sometime in the next few months! Part of that process means I’m learning to draw and use Illustrator. A completely new concept to me, but I’m thoroughly enjoying it all the same. I can’t wait to share what I’ve been working on, but I want to make sure they’re just right first.
Thanks For Following Along
While the pace of things might slow down to a more manageable rhythm for me, I hope that you continue to get something out of this space. Whether that’s feeling like you’re not alone, whether you intend to try out some of the resources, or whether it’s just something to read while you have a cuppa.
Regardless of why you’re here, I just want to say thank you for being here. I can’t believe that I’m 30 posts in already (including this one). I love getting the comments and I do a little happy dance every time I get a new subscriber! We’re up to 12 by the way! Which is 11 more than I thought I’d get… I always knew Mum was a safe bet.
So thank you for reading, commenting, and just for being here. I have full faith that 2026 will see Field Notes & Follies expanding into something more, and I can’t wait to share what Hail and I get up to over the next 12 months.
Cheers
Emily
